Labor Day Weekend Activities

There are plenty of things to do this Labor Day weekend in our city and surrounding areas! The end of summer does not have to end entirely because of the school year. Why not get out and enjoy some more outdoor activities with your family before the season of Fall arrives?! We want you all to take full advantage of this weekend by partaking in some of the recommend activities from the All Star Family!

Red Stick Farmers Market


The Red Stick Farmers Market is great for a nice morning walk to go and get some fresh produce for your Labor Day cookout! Fresh and local vegetables and fruits are always a pleasant combination. It is always great to wake up on the weekend mornings to go and take a nice stroll at the Farmers Market. There will be plenty of offerings, from plants to homemade sweets! The Farmers Market will open there doors at 8:00 a.m. and close at 12:00 p.m. The location of the market is on 5th  and Mainstreet, downtown Baton Rouge. This is a great opportunity to support our local farmers,and get some fresh produce!

Hill Memorial Library


The Hill Memorial Library are doing some amazing things in Baton Rouge. There is an exhibition on our animal earthly companions, and it’s free to the public! They are going to focus on how intriguing and complexed the relationship between humans and animals are. These fascinations are documented and housed within LSU Libraries Special Collections. We suggest you get the kids down there to learn about our complexed earthly companions. This special is running through September 16. Zydeco Country


It’s time to celebrate the oldest Zydeco Festival this Labor Day weekend in Opelousas; the Zydeco Capital of the world! This weekend at the Zydeco Music Festival will have food, crafts, and dancing! The creole culture and zydeco music will definitely keep you and your family entertained. They are going to be paying tribute to featured artist, Grammy Winner- Chubby Carrier, and others! The festival will be held at the Yambilee Festival Grounds off Highway 190, (1939 W. Landry,Opelousas), from September 1-2. The gates will open at 8:30 a.m. and close at 12 O’ clock, Midnight- or until the festivities stop. This is definitely going to be a great time for you to get out and spend some upbeat quality time with the family or friends! Did we mention there will be great food and arts and crafts there?! Admission to Zydeco Country is $15 for adult, and $5 for 12 years and under.

This Labor Day Holiday is a great opportunity to get out and make some lasting memories with your family! These are actives simple and yet rewarding for you and your family. This weekend can definitely give you and your family the quality time that you all would not forget. We suggest you get out there, and dance like there is no tomorrow through our town!
